Twins?

Our whole lives people have mistaken my sister and I for each other. If I hear someone call hi Mindy in a store I will smile and wave back. Sometimes a conversation will ensue and I will have to politely explain that I am not Mindy but her sister. I am sure Mindy has to do the same but she gets to say she is the younger sister. In school (esp high school) people thought we were twins. Teachers would call us by our last name, unsure of which sister they were speaking to. I think we look like sisters but twins? I don't see it. Kate took this photo.

Yesterday afternoon Christy stopped by my work after her twenty week Dr.'s appointment. She brought with her the latest sonogram pictures ( my grandbaby is too cute) and a bag of goodies for the baby to let me know if it was a boy or girl.

A hooded sweater/jerga like grandpa likes to wear. A Max t-shirt, from Grammy's favorite story, some chocolates (yes, I ate one) and bibs. Patrick was away so instead of tell him over the phone I met him at the airport with this HUGE balloon.
I found the highchair at my favorite consignment shop yesterday. I love a wooden highchair.

A few weeks ago while my sister and her family were away for the weekend a dove moved in. She made her nest in the flower box on a table on their back porch. She laid two eggs, one hatched.

Kate and I spent the afternoon together in Annapolis. We had tea at Reynold's Tavern, walked down Main St. and did a little shopping. It was great to have the time together.

We sat at a table by a window. This was my view.

Opps! should have thought to grab a shot before we finished.

A cute side street.

Some other photos from our trip to the "beach park" that I liked.

Today we went to a new park. The park is located on the Patapsco River. The playground was nice and we had a picnic but the real highlight for the girls was searching for sea glass on the little beach.

The view from the beach.

Meghan and Lilly put their feet "under the water". The water was freezing cold but they loved it.

I am sorry my last few posts have be so short. Life has been very busy the last few days.

Last Friday we had the driveway paved. We did not increase the size of the parking pad but now that it is blacktop and not gravel it looks so much larger.

Saturday I was a school all day and then we had symphony tickets. Sunday I put in the vegetable garden. I planted cucumbers, squash, red and green peppers, tomatoes and broccoli. This weekend I will add green beans, peas, zucchini and strawberries.

And the last 2 days my Lilly has been under the weather. Doesn't she look miserable? She just laid on the couch a lot today and sometimes she would just start crying but couldn't tell me why. I hope she is feeling better tomorrow.

With all the talk about Colony Collapse Disorder the past few summers I was very happy to see many different types of bees enjoying this cherry tree today. Click on the photographs to see them larger.

We spent Easter Sunday at the ball park.

It was a beautiful sunny day, temps in the mid 50's with 10 mph winds. Our seats were on the shady side of the field. It was COLD! After the fourth inning we moved to the sunny side of the stands, it was much warmer there. I spent some time trying out my 70-300mm lens. It was an eBay purchase. Originally I was saving for the VR version of this lens but this one was a bargain so I bought it. I will try it for a while and see how I like it. If the pictures are not crisp enough without the VR (vibration reduction) I will sell it and buy the more expensive lens. At $80 verses $500 it is worth a shot.

Here are two shots at 300mm from today. Click to view them larger.

Kate has agreed to be the subject of my next photography project. The assignment title is Environmental Portraits. We are suppose to photograph our subject in an environment using props as needed to relay information. We are to shoot some photos making the subject likable or "giving the subject a sympathetic, flattering or respectful feel", some making the subject unlikable and some portraying the subject as an icon. I have thought about this all week and have not been able think of anything creative to do. Thank goodness it isn't due until May 9th and I have a little time. I need to turn in a minimum of 3 prints dealing with the 3 parts of the problem and 3 contact sheets. I think I have completely over thought this. Today I took a roll of snapshot type photos of her at the park with her boyfriend's little sister so I will have something to develop tomorrow. I am sure none of it will meet the assignment criteria.

Lots of outside time today enjoying the bright blue sky and the big fluffy clouds. In this photo Lilly is doing two things I never let her do... Playing in the street with latex balloon. The little boy next door had these balloons and a pump. You fill the balloon with air then you release it. It zigs and zags all through the air whistling as it goes. I am not sure which Lilly liked more, releasing the balloon or chasing it after she let it go.

Today isn't anyone birthday. I took this photo to tell you a story. When you work with children all day every day you get to hear some of the cutest and funniest things. Sometimes it is when they are playing alone and talking to themselves and other times it happens in conversation. Most of the time they are serious about what they have said and you have to try very very hard not to laugh out loud so that you don't hurt their feelings. Yesterday I had one of those moments with Lilly.

We had gone to Rolly Pollies in the morning for our art class but, Silly 'Chelle had forgotten that Rolly Pollies was on spring break. Hmmm, what else could we do since we are already out and Lilly did not want to go home. She suggested Sweet Pea's and lunch with Patrick. Great plan. Sweet Pea's is our favorite consignment shop. I got some things for Lilly and just before we checked out I spotted the pink crown for Chloe first birthday. Lilly had a white one for her first birthday. She wore a pink party dress with the white crown. I had already found a white dress for Chloe and now she has a pink crown. Lilly did not see the crown when I bought it. When we got home and I unpacked the shopping bag she asked if it was hers. The rest of the coversation went something like this.

Me ~ No Lilly, this is Chloe's for when she turns one. You had a white one when you had your first birthday.

Lilly~ I saw it in the picture.

Me~ I think I know where Mommy put it. Let me put Chloe in her crib for nappy time and we can try to find it.

Lilly~ OK. I will go up first.

I put Chloe down for her nap while Lilly is yelling from her room that she can't find it. In Lilly's room I pull out her keepsake box and start to look through the things in there. We find the crown. I tell her that she is a princess and that she wore it to her first birthday party.

Lilly~ Can I wear it now?

Me~ You can try but it is probably too small.

She puts it on and indeed it is too small.

Lilly~ Please, put it back in the box, 'Chelle, it is too small.

Me ~ OK

Lilly~ I will save it for my babies.

Me~ Your baby dolls?

Lilly~ No my babies when I get big.

Me ~ Oh, thats a good idea, but maybe you should find a husband* first.

Lilly (head cocked thoughtfully to the side)~ Where, on the internet?

This is the part where I try hard not to laugh. The internet!? At two she already knows it is there and that you can find things on it. She already talks about emailing on her blackberry. What will technology hold for her generation? I can still remember not having pagers or cell phones. I can remember not having computers or remote controls. I remember a time before cable when you have to tune your black and white TV with rabbit ears.

*Husband is a new word for Lilly. She just recently learned that Patrick is my husband and the Daddy is Mommy's husband etc.

I have been under the weather the last few days. I haven't taken any pictures. Here is a snapshot I took last week of our new wheels. The girl's mom bought a Valco Twin Runabout so that she and I could get a little exercise with the girls in tow. I really need it! I am becoming a big Valco fan. Both my Buggster and this double push and steer beautifully.

The question, "What do you want to listen too?" usually results in this, my dear sweet husband standing in front of the cd cabinet, hands on hips trying to make up his mind (or pick something he thinks I want to hear).

It doesn't look like it in this photograph but this afternoon was beautiful. The rain broke and the sun came out, temps were near 70 and windy. The sky was full of every kind of cloud imaginable. They were blowing by very quickly. One minute the sky was brilliant blue and the next it looked like this.

Today I took the girls to have their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny. Lilly loves him. She runs up to him and gives him a big hug. Usually she is all grins and giggles when we see him. Today she was happy to see the bunny, not quite as happy to see the photographer. Chloe did not think it was a good idea for a seven foot (to the tips of his ears) bunny to hold her. Nope, not at all. Add to that a very long line of people behind us and well lets just say I wasn't thrilled with the pictures we ended up with. So since the girls were already dressed up I decided to give portraits a try. I threw a blanket over the back of the couch, grabbed the Easter baskets and started shooting. The lighting could have been better and do you have any idea how difficult it is to get two kids to look at the camera at the same time? Once you get them to do that you can only hope that you will get a frame with both of them looking happy, with their eyes open. Since it is digital and I can delete anything I don't like I took many many shots. Here are the ones I am willing to share...
